Formula 1 team Sauber F1 has stated that it will not wait too long to make the announcement regarding its final lineup of drivers for the 2014 season and will make a decision on its protégé Sergey Sirotkin and the possibility of his earning a driver’s seat as early as possible.
The new Russian partners and sponsors of the team are extremely keen for the young Russian to be a given a shot at Formula 1 this season with the team especially with the first ever Russian Grand Prix set to take place this year at the Sochi region of the country and they consider a huge marketing opportunity in front of the home fans.
The team itself is carrying out a lot of tests with the young driver and have put him on the simulator to fast track his development as a driver and they think that he is more than ready to be handed a driver’s seat for the 2014 season.
Monisha Kaltenborn, the team boss for the Sauber F1 team was asked how long the team would wait for Sirotkin and she vehemently mentioned that there is no way that they will leave things unsettled till the eve of the first testing session for the new season.
She stated that the team will know pretty soon whether the young Russian will make the benchmark set to become a driver in Formula 1 for this season or will have to wait for some time before making his debut in the sport.
The Sauber F1 boss further mentioned that they know the workings of the sport and they will push him forward so that he can get his hands on the Super License for Formula 1 but the rest will be up to him whether he makes the grade.
