The Sauber F1 chief designer Matt Morris has revealed that he expects the new signing Nico Hulkenberg to be a major asset to the team in the upcoming 2013 season. The former Force India driver recently signed for Sauber after impressing with the struggling team in the last season. He has recently spoken in high praise about the high speed handling ability of the car, which in turn gives him great belief that Sauber will be able to do well in the upcoming season. Morris has revealed that the team is also extremely impressed with the pace he has been showing in the first few days of testing.
Testing for the new 2013 season has recently begun in Jerez. Morris has revealed that he had already worked with the 25-year-old when he was at Williams F1. He has not only praised the pace he will bring to the team, but also the cleverness as well. Despite the advantages, Morris has admitted that there has been some difficulty for the team in trying to get a perfect driving position for the tall German. One of the main reasons for it has been the fact that the chassis was designed before the arrival of Nico, and the team had to make adjustments in order to fit the driver who stands at more than 6 feet.
“I worked with Nico briefly at Williams and he’s not only a fast driver, he’s also a clever driver. That’s both in terms of his general approach and also his ability to understanding engineering. He’s a huge asset to the team. It has been a bit of a challenge to fit Nico in the car. The chassis was designed and realised around the summer break and we didn’t know at that point that Nico was going to be coming. He fits, but we had to make some special boots for him to absolutely optimise the feet arrangement,” said Morris.
